For green balconies incorporated into Australia's first 5 Star Green Star designed aged care home, a durable waterproofing solution was critical.

Stephen Marton from M&M Waterproofing Brisbane chose Nitoproof 610 to protect the 350 sqm balconies at Rockpool Residential Aged Care in Carseldine Village. Waffle-style pavers were laid on top of the membrane, while the landscaping pods were filled with soil and plants.

Nitoproof 610 is a single component polyurethane liquid which cures by reaction with atmospheric moisture. Its benefits include high elasticity, excellent bond strength and low water permeability.

Stephen explains his choice: "Nitoproof 610 was selected for its durability under tough conditions, including water and soil exposure. I also liked the easy two-coat application, without any need for a primer," Stephen explains. "That's one less coat to put down."

Cost effective in terms of purchase price and application time, Nitoproof 610 creates a tough and flexible membrane suitable for internal and external areas. It is a single component polyurethane liquid which cures by reaction with atmospheric moisture.

Filling a gap in waterproofing market

Fosroc ANZ account manager Eric Repetto says Nitoproof 610 offers high performance waterproofing at a competitive price point.

It is suitable for foundations, basements, tunnels, ground floors, suspended floors, roof terraces, balconies, patios and bridges.

"Nitoproof 610 is an excellent, versatile solution for general construction where water exposure or ponding is likely to be an issue," Eric explains.

Durability advantages:

  • High elongation – the elastometric membrane provides a permanently flexible barrier
  • Temperature resilient from extreme cold to extreme heat
  • Outstanding barrier protection against corrosive soil conditions
  • Irreversible chemical cure eliminates melting and flow at high temperature
  • A Class III wet area membrane – independently tested to AS/NZS 4858:2004 and AS/NZS 4654.1:2012

Tested by the CSIRO as part of Fosroc ANZ's commitment to independent testing, Nitoproof 610 meets the performance requirements of AS/NZS 4858:2004 for internal wet area waterproofing and AS/NZS 4654.1:2012 for external above-ground waterproofing. It was rated as a Class III membrane in both tests. You can download the testing certificates on the Nitoproof 610 product page.

Why applicators love Nitoproof 610

Stephen was confident to choose Nitoproof 610 after using it during product trials, as part of its launch into the ANZ market.

"I knew the product and how it worked. It's applied straight from the can with no mixing required. The recoat time is excellent too," Stephen says.

Application advantages:

  • Readily applied direct from can – no mixing required
  • Two coat application by trowel, roller or squeegee
  • Can be applied to a wide range of substrates

  • Easy to achieve recommended thickness for both vertical and horizontal surfaces
  • Fast recoat time – 6-12 hours compared to 24 hours for similar products
  • Membrane can be flood tested after 24 hours

A full specification

For this McNab construction, M&M Waterproofing Brisbane approached Fosroc ANZ to assist with its tender submission for the waterproofing contract.

"As well as specification, I value the back up and service I receive from Fosroc during application,” says Stephen.

As well as the green balconies, about 3000 square metres of window surrounds and ledges needed to be sealed and waterproofed. Queensland Specification Manager Shawn Perry assisted Eric to deliver the following multi-product solution:

  • Nitoproof 510 – this water-based epoxy coating was used as a primer.
  • Nitoproof 310 – a fibre enhanced single component water based latex liquid applied waterproofing membrane.
  • Nitoseal MS400 – this ultra UV resistant elastomeric trafficable sealant will provide excellent weathering and abrasion resistance.
  • Nitoproof 610 – a single component polyurethane liquid to waterproof the green balconies.
